This page covers all the electrical, site preparation and delivery instructions for your new hot tub;  if these are not followed it may prevent the full installation of your hot tub.

If you have any questions, please call us on 01246 808088 and one of the sales team will be able to help.

Installation checklist

So, you’ve chosen your dream hot tub, have you considered:

1 Access requirements
2 Hot tub location and base
3 Electrical requirements
4 Water supply and chemicals

Please read below for further details and requirements or call the Spa Home office on 01246 808088 to speak to one of our expert teams.

Prior to delivery, our logistics team will call to do a pre-delivery check to these requirements and ensure you’re ready for installation. They will also request a set of photos showing the access route from the kerbside to the installation site. Then, all you need to do is count down to your delivery date and start planning your relaxation!

1. Access requirements

Please read these access requirements carefully to ensure that we will be able to deliver and position your hot tub. If you have any concerns over the access route for your hot tub, please take photos and measurements of any potential issues and give us a call on 01246 808088.

Your hot tub will be delivered on its side using a ‘Spa Sled’ so the minimum access requirements are:

.
The minimum width of any pathways or gates will need to be at least 100mm wider than the depth of your hot tub.
.
Consider any obstructions such as gate frames, windowsills or pipes.
.
The minimum height of any doors or archways would need to be the length of your hot tub plus 350mm. Ie. For a 2000 x 2000mm hot tub the minimum height would need to be 2350mm.
.
The Spa Sled has a wide turning area; ample space will be required to pass around corners.
.
Additional help will be needed from several fit, able-bodied people to manoeuvre the hot tub up any steps.
.
If there are any steps or access limitations, this must be disclosed during the pre-delivery checks.

Deliveries requiring a crane or lifting equipment

If your access is limited, then a crane may be required to install your hot tub. Please call us to confirm this before making any arrangements.

It is your responsibility to organise lifting equipment, as a local company would be able to visit the site and make a full assessment of the equipment required prior to installation. During lifting, the hot tub and all health and safety is the responsibility of the crane operator.

Please note, all of our swim-spas will require a crane for delivery.

2. Hot tub location and base

Location

When siting your hot tub, it is important to ensure:

.
Electrical components are sited where water will drain away to prevent water damage.
.
Easy access to the spa for maintenance.
.
Easy access to circuit breakers and RCD sockets.
.
60cm of space behind the hot tub(if using a cover lifter).
Hot Tub Installation Concrete Siting
Hot Tub Installation Patio

Base

Your hot tub must be placed on a structurally sound level surface; a 4” thick concrete base is ideal but a patio or decking with sufficient support will also work well.

Inadequate foundations can settle, unbalancing your hot tub and causing damage which would not be covered by the warranty. Spa Home engineers will not fully install a hot tub on an inadequate foundation.

Decking

Speak to a qualified building contractor or a structural engineer to ensure your decking can support your new hot tub. The weight of the hot tub (plus water and occupants), per square metre must not exceed the rated load of the decking. Please contact us on 01246 808088 for the weight of your specific spa model.

Please be aware that decking may vibrate, and this can amplify the pump sounds of your hot tub.

If the hot tub is going to be sunk into decking, build the base and install the hot tub first. Then construct the decking around the spa, ensuring maintenance access. Lowering a hot tub into decking requires 8 people, a crane and has the potential to cause damage to both your new hot tub and the decking.

Indoor Installation

Your hot tub can be installed indoors with appropriate ventilation and drainage but please make ensure these criteria are followed:

.
Flooring must have good grip in case of water on the floor.
.
A minimum of a 4” diameter floor drain is recommended.
.
Extractor fan to reduce humidity.
.
Excess humidity and inadequate ventilation risks damage to woodwork, paper or furnishings.

3. Electrical requirements

The electrical supply for any hot tub should be installed by a competent, certified electrician.

If you already have an electrical supply set up from a previous hot tub all supply and wiring must still meet the Spa Home requirements and standards.

13amp Hot Tubs

A 13amp RCD outdoor socket should be installed, at least 2m from the hot tub, with a steel wire armoured cable connecting it to the consumer unit.

An armoured cable with a plug must then be provided to connect the outdoor socket to the hot tub. Please ensure this is long enough to reach around the tub to where you require the control panel to be plus an additional metre of cable for flexibility.

32amp Hot Tubs

For a 32amp hot tub, all works and electrical installations should be certified to part P of the building regulations and BS:767117 of the wiring regulations.

A 32 amp rotary circuit breaker, with RCD protection must be installed and connected to the consumer unit. The circuit must then be connected to waterproof isolator switch located a minimum of 2m from the hot tub. This allows the hot tub circuit to be separately turned off from the rest of the property.

An armoured cable must be provided from the isolator switch to the hot tub base, ensuring there is ample length to reach around to where the control panel is located plus an additional metre of cable to allow for flexibility. This cable must be wired into the isolator switch in advance by your electrician, as the hot tub engineers are not able to undertake any work on the isolator itself.

40amp Swim Spas

The 40 amp Swim Spas require the same specifications as the 32amp hot tubs but the circuit breaker must be at 40amps and the armoured cable should be a minimum of 10mm diameter.

4. Water and chemical supply

Your hot tub is filled with a hosepipe and does not need to be connected to a piped water supply. However, it’s easily forgotten in the excitement of your hot tub arriving so please ensure you have a long enough hosepipe to be able to fill your hot tub on delivery day!

Chemicals, such as Chlorine or Bromine are needed to keep your hot tub clean and maintained. We offer a starter pack of chemicals, ideal for installation. Please let us know if you would like to add this onto your order.

If you’re unsure about using the chemicals and setting up your hot tub for the first time, consider upgrading to our comprehensive delivery srevice which includes a full tutorial on using your hot tub and a chemical talk.
